Speaking of the video, bassist Russ Stedman states: “Just before our first show we couldn’t get our usual rehearsal space, so we ended up finding Black Rock Subway Studios, near the marina in Brighton. For some magical reason the ramshackle rooms adorned with old school amps seemed to enhance our sound and brought out the best in our writing and we have had some of our best rehearsals there since.

Black Rock therefore seemed an appropriate place to shoot our first music video.
It’s a simple performance video with no crazy concept or anything, we just wanted to show people who we are and how much passion we have for what we are doing. We only had seven hours to load in, set up, shoot and get out, so the day was pretty fraught, but without question everyone gave 110% to their performance that day and that shines through in the video.”

Purify Me is a song about putting demands on your own existence and feeling that we need to cleanse ourselves of things that are perceived to be toxic. A conversation with parts of myself that tries to explain why it feels important to “be better” and not inflict pain.

We can rely on doing things that have harmful consequences on us physically and mentally – eating junk food, procrastinating, drinking alcohol, drug use etc. All these things contribute to feeling depressed and low in energy so why do we put ourselves through it?

RUMIN (roo-min, short for ruminate) is the brainchild of bassist Russ Stedman (earthtone9 2012-2016) (Just a Ride 2019-2022) and guitarist/producer Andy Ellis, affiliated with Paul Roberts (ex Stranglers). After years of playing metal/hard rock/grunge, recording with Romesh Dodangoda (earthtone9) and Dave Draper (Just A Ride) Russ came to Andy in 2018 to explore making music with groove, funk and experimental timings, while keeping that hard rock energy – pulling from mutual influences such as RHCP, Incubus, Tool, Extreme and the Seattle grunge era.

Ricky Gallimore (Gallimore) was recruited in early 2023 and provides passionate vocals with deep, introspective lyrics, dealing with subjects such as alienation, mental health struggles and finding the energy and determination to overcome these challenges.

The heavy hitting drum grooves on the first EP – Horizontal/Vertical – were provided by Mark Woodard (Ex Graces Collide) who left the project in mid 2023. Spaniard David Hervas joined Rumin in the autumn of 2024 and instantly everything came together, in terms of chemistry within the band. The sound that Russ, Andy and Ricky had been searching for emerged and the fluency, efficiency and calibre of the music was instantly elevated.

Rumin played their inaugural performance at the renowned Prince Albert venue in Brighton, March 3rd 2025 and have since been crafting their live set, as well as writing and refining a whole host of new material ready for future releases in 2025.
