OUT NOW
The term ‘outlaw’ is to persistently fail to obey the rules and orders. Have The Outlaw Orchestra failed to obey the rules of rock with their latest release? Evelyn Barr finds out.
La Familia, released on 18th October 2024 is the third studio album from The Outlaw Orchestra and has a slightly different edge on the previous releases of Pantomime Villains, an album from 2020 which was followed by the EP Under the Covers released in June 2021 and the second studio album Makin’ Tracks which was released in October of 2021.
The Outlaw Orchestra are not shy of the ‘big’ stage, having previously shared the bill with the likes of The Darkness, Kris Barras Band and Brothers Osborne to name but a few. They have also had features extensively on Classic Rock Radio, HRH Radio and our own ERB Radio.
For this album they underwent a change of studio to that of Rogue Studios and also a change in producer. This album is under the production wing of Dragon Force vocalist Alessio Gravello and I for one can certainly hear the change in direction he has introduced.
The album is packed with 11 solid tracks and so I’m not going to spoil your listening endeavor by detailing each and every track, instead I’m going to chose a few of my favorite tracks and we can compare notes at a later date.
The first of my stand out tracks is Rotten Apples which is the track that opens the album and is due for release as a single on the same day. This is a very catchy, high energy, toe tapping opening track and it sets the pace for the rest of the album.
The next one to get you on your feet dancing or at the very least tapping your toes and nodding your head is the banjo lead and who doesn’t love a banjo eh? and this is had the fabulous back beat from the powerhouse that is Ryan on the drums and this track is El Dorado and I for one cannot wait to hear this played on the live circuit.
The next track that had me leaping up for a dance around was the house was Sunday Drivers and this really upbeat track should put a smile on any one’s face. The first single to be released was the amazing Bag of Bones and is musically and lyrically a fabulous track.
Probably my most favourite track on this album is Born to be a Thief; this track, for me, encapsulates everything that this band is trying to ascertain, this is the sound of classic rock, southern rock, country and also Americana and I firmly believe that they have done it with this latest offering.
This album finishes with another firm favourite in the very aptly named Outlaw this is a really upbeat song which had me on my feet yet again for another dance and for me personally this is the track that puts the ‘Outlaw’ in The Outlaw Orchestra, but the listener really has to experience this album for themselves and find their own inner outlaw.
This latest album is a game changer for The Outlaw Orchestra.
