Burning Jerusalem

30th May 2025

In February of 2020 Elliot, Phil and Nigel started writing original music that was designed to honour their influences from the early ‘80s New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Having previously worked as a covers and tribute band, they decided the time was right to form a band of their own and put out their original creations. Then March arrived and everything stopped! Video calls became the norm. Pete’s skills were known to the trio, and joined the band not long afterwards. Completing the lineup was Ian Reason. Although not new to playing music, Metallised is definitely an emerging force, making a name for themselves. Burning Jerusalem is their latest 5-track EP.

The opening track Mother’s Son kicks off with a quick drum solo that pulls you into the fast paced guitar introduction of a song about the fate of a tank crew. The underlaying riff of the guitar seems to mirror the movements of the action taking place, a clear nod to their influence from Iron Maiden. This track moves from fast paced guitaring to a more lamented style and back again, in a way that might mirror ourselves and our thoughts at times. It asks the question ‘Are the men who fought, heroes or not?’ Whatever point of view you have, they are all a ‘Mother’s Son’

Track two is an epic coming in at just over seven and a half minute. Paladin tells the story of a person dedicated to cause, in a similar way to the crusader knights of old. A single guitar accompanies a spoken prayer at the start. The simple riffs are complimented with clear vocals and not overly complicated drums. The harmony of all the instrument at the start is expertly done as not to take away from the story line. The solos in this track gives you the chance to picture what is happening in the story. Tempo changes help to break the song into sections in a similar way chapters break up a novel.

This EP is full of energy, pace and enthusiasm, from a band that have clearly thought about the direction they are going in. It is most definitely worth a listen and you’ll want to listen to it again and again

Signalling the halfway point is track three, Living in This World. We are slowly drawn in with a lively introduction from the guitar and drums. The vocals are clear as we move through the verses. This track is about how many of us live in a modern world. The physical, financial and mental challenges we are often under. It challenges us to face these pressures and stand tall against them.

Track four, Fading Away, has a hard hitting and fast paced introduction leading with guitar and joined by the pounding of the drums. This pace stays with us throughout the track maintaining the pulse that reflects life as this track explores the concept of growing older. The loss of dreams and destiny. However reminding us that we can still change out futures. A track that should make us all pause and take a look at where we are and where we are going.

The title track is the last on the EP Burning Jerusalem. Starting off with the familiar notes of the hymn ‘Jerusalem’ on peeling bells. Powerful drums and guitar pull you into this track and keep you there, while your ears are exposed to the focused lyrics retelling the fate of ancient civilisations, how this is repeated again and again. The solo in this track is almost a battle of instruments, guitar verse drum finally uniting to get to the final part of the song. This track could be about any country at any time throughout history.

This EP is full of energy, pace and enthusiasm, from a band that have clearly thought about the direction they are going in. It is most definitely worth a listen and you’ll want to listen to it again and again.
