From an idea forming around 10 years ago in the mind of Brett Kelly, this musical project finally came to fruition some 5 years ago when he formed the Canadian based glam metal band Gelatin Skelatin. The band released their debut album on August 9th 2024 via SRS/MVD Entertainment.

The album is nine tracks long and with each track around the three to four minute mark, it’s not overly taxing on the ear.
The first single from the album is also the opening track and the aptly named VHS. Immediately I am transported back to the mid to late 1980s stadium sound that I remember so very well. VHS has a real catchy chorus and already I have a huge smile on my face.
The next two tracks 80s Ladies and Bad Alphabet should have the listener reaching immediately for the biggest can of hairspray, spandex and heavy black eye liner. 80s Ladies is a firm favourite of mine and I have played on my Empress of Rocks Show on ERB Radio. Bad Alphabet is a head nodding, toe tapping, feel good factor song and I really enjoyed the heavier beat and guitars on this one and the guitar solo was spot on for this track.
Even though Ship of Fools had a distinctly heavy opening, it soon melted into a ballad-esque track and this was one that I really enjoyed listening to. Following on from this was another heavy, slightly ‘punky’ sounding If You See Kay and I truly believe that this song will be a real crowd pleaser when played on the live music circuit. Brett says his vision was “To share the party vibe with the world” and in my opinion he certainly has achieved this.

I can guarantee that this album will put a real smile on your face and perhaps have you reaching for the ‘big tin’ of hairspray and eyeliner.

Track six on this debut album has a kind of AC/DC lick to it, while it’s another softer track it still builds the listener up to the next big ‘anthemic’ track on this album Scream and Scream Again which shares with the listener how things were ‘back in the day’ and it also comes with a fabulous sing along chorus.
Continuing as if still ensconced in the late 1980s is the next track If You Can’t Do What’s Right (Do What’s Left) and again it’s another big hitting track with some mighty fine guitar riffs and is definitely a track based on life in the fast lane of the 80s.
The final track of this album is quite simply an anthemic feel good song and That’s Rock’N Roll will have audiences on their feet singing along madly.
The album easily transports the listener back to the heady days of the 1980s and gives others a chance to experience these ‘glory days’. This album was mastered by none other than Harry Hess of Harem Scarem fame.
For the pure ‘feel good’ factor, this album should be on everyone’s list of albums to take ‘a chance on’ if glam rock is your ‘bag’. Even if it’s not, I can guarantee that this album will put a real smile on your face and perhaps have you reaching for the ‘big tin’ of hairspray and eyeliner.

ERB RATING: 8.5/10
