Out Now!
Cry For Mercy are back and they are not messing around. This North Wales power trio have just released their third studio album, full of hard hitting, blues rock that is sure to make you want to dance, sing at the top of your lungs and feel every emotion possible throughout its twelve track play.
The opening track A Thing About Me gets the album off to an epic start, immediately drawing you in with a catchy ZZ Top-esque riff from electric guitar player Andy Cutty, which continues into the perfect sing-a-long chorus and a stadium worthy atmospheric breakdown. The song has a nostalgic sound which makes it an instant classic, also seen in tracks Sometimes and Let Me Be, the latter embodying everything good about dad rock.
A Thing About Me was my instantly my favourite track on the album but the rest did not disappoint. Moving through to the second track Show Me, you are hit with the soulful vocals of Kevin Plant who has an air of what could one described as Steven Tyler and Chris Robinson’s love child. After the captivating start you are hit with an explosion of raucous guitars and drums with tight harmonies adding to the already seamless vocals.
Mid-album is welcomed by a stripped back track called Nothing At All, showing this band can do it all; deep felt emotion and rowdy rock and roll, a point backed up by the track Saving Grace which could be straight off a classic Foo Fighters album and a song I am sure will stand the test of time.
Closing out the album is a song that sounds like it is straight off a film soundtrack that captures both the big finish you expect of an album and the mellow ending to round off an album all at once.
This album from Cry For Mercy features lead singer Kevin’s son Aled on drums. Kevin said ‘Aled is a super talented musician and I just had to take the opportunity to feature his talents on this record…he did an amazing job!’
This Machine was recorded at Absolute Studios in Salford that the band have used for all of their recordings and once again benefited from the expert ears of producer and engineer Ben McEwan. The band have hailed this project as bringing out the best in their songwriting, building on the style they have developed over the last five years and expanding their sound whilst staying true to who they are.
If you are a fan of Queens of the Stone Age or Bad Company, don’t sleep on Cry For Mercy because they will quickly become your new favourite band. This Machine is an album to keep you on your toes start to finish. This Machine is unstoppable!
